IARC-ESMO webinar series: Current Status and Perspectives from Epidemiological and Clinical Research on Cancer Survival and Outcome

The ninth instalment in the IARC-ESMO webinar series will be broadcast live on Monday 1 July 2024 at 13:00 CEST. The topic of the webinar will be Current Status and Perspectives from Epidemiological and Clinical Research on Cancer Survival. The event, which will last approximately 1.5 hours, will include three presentations and a question and answer session. Dr Isabelle Soerjomataram, Deputy Head of the Cancer Surveillance Branch at the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), will chair the event.

In the first presentation, Dr Isabelle Soerjomataram (IARC) will present the global status of cancer survival and the availability of data to better inform policies to reduce premature mortality from cancer worldwide.

In the second presentation, Professor Rajaraman Swaminathan, Professor and Head of the Department of Epidemiology, Biostatistics and Cancer Registry at the Cancer Institute (WIA) in Chennai, India, will present a perspective from low- and middle-income countries, including achievements and challenges to perform research and derive data on cancer survival.

In the third presentation, Dr Inès Vaz-Luis, Oncologist and Research Director of the Department for the Organization of Patient Pathways at Gustave Roussy, and Head of the Cancer Survivorship Group at the Institut national de la santé et de la recherche médicale (INSERM), France, will review data and research on cancer survival in high-income countries, as well as the physical and psychosocial challenges faced by patients with cancer and survivors. She will also reflect on how health information systems could be transformed to collect better data on survival and quality of life of patients with cancer.

The IARC-ESMO webinar series aims to provide new perspectives or to present new research, to complement the large variety of educational resources that are freely accessible from the online learning platform of the IARC-ESMO Learning and Capacity-Building Initiative on Cancer Prevention. The webinar series is organized with the support of and in collaboration with the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO).
